A juice cleanse can be a powerful reset for your body — but it helps to know what you're getting into before you start. Whether you're considering your first 3-day cleanse or curious about going longer, here's a straightforward guide based on what we've learned from years of helping customers through the process at Golden Juicery.
What Is a Juice Cleanse?
A juice cleanse replaces your regular meals with cold-pressed juices and smoothies for a set period — typically 3 to 7 days. The idea is simple: by giving your digestive system a break from solid food, your body can redirect that energy toward detoxification and repair.
How to Prepare
Don't jump straight from pizza and beer into a cleanse. In the 2–3 days leading up to it:
- Gradually reduce caffeine, alcohol, processed foods, and sugar
- Eat more fruits, vegetables, and light meals
- Drink plenty of water
- Set your schedule — avoid planning a cleanse during your most stressful week
What to Expect During the Cleanse
Day 1: You'll likely feel hungry and may get a headache, especially if you're a regular coffee drinker. This is normal — your body is adjusting and beginning to release stored toxins, including caffeine.
Days 2–3: The hunger usually subsides. Many people start feeling lighter and more mentally clear. Your body is in full detox mode, using the energy it normally spends on digestion to clean house.
Days 4+: If you're doing an extended cleanse, this is where the sustained energy kicks in. People often describe a feeling of calm and clarity that's hard to replicate with food alone.
Common Questions
Can I still drink coffee?
We recommend against it. Caffeine is one of the toxins your body is working to clear during a cleanse. Drinking coffee would be counterproductive and can make withdrawal headaches worse. Herbal teas and water are fine throughout.
Do I have to drink the juices in a specific order?
No — all of our cleanse beverages work together harmoniously. Drink one whenever you start feeling hungry, roughly every 2–3 hours. Just try to have your last juice at least 3 hours before bed. Water and herbal tea are fine anytime.
Can I eat anything during the cleanse?
If you're doing our Stage 1 Beginner's Cleanse, you're welcome to have one light plant-based salad or soup per day to ease cravings — ideally at midday. For Stage 2 and Stage 3 cleanses, we strongly recommend sticking to the beverages only for the best results.
How long should I cleanse?
Three days is enough for a meaningful detox. However, if you're over 30 or haven't cleansed before, a 7-day cleanse will give you a more complete experience. It takes time to clear toxins that have built up over years.
What do I eat afterward?
Break your fast gently. On day one post-cleanse, eat just fruit — one type per meal rather than a mixed fruit salad. Over the next few days, gradually reintroduce vegetables, grains, and proteins. Your body will tell you what it wants, and you'll likely find that your cravings have shifted.
